Spanish Former Football Star Pelayo Novo has Died at the Age of 32 After Being Hit by a Train in Oviedo, Spain. Novo had been paralyzed from a fall from the third-floor of his team’s hotel five years ago, and was crushed to death by a train in Oviedo on Tuesday night.
The midfielder had made appearances for Elche, Cordoba, Lugo and Albacete – and also briefly turned out for Romanian side CFR Cluj. He spent 51 days in a Zaragoza hospital following that accident before being moved to the Toledo National Paraplegic Hospital.
Despite his disability, Novo remained determined and resilient throughout his life, inspiring disabled athletes around him through his ambition and determination to never give up on his dreams. He became an ambassador for professional and aspiring disabled athletes in Spain, turning his focus to wheelchair tennis where he found a new passion.
Tributes have been pouring in from teams he was connected with as well as fans who admired Novo’s courage and strength through all of the adversity he faced. His tragic passing is heartbreaking news for all those connected with the footballer who inspired many throughout his life.
